Is Enthusiasm the opposite of Depression

Thinking about writing this blog last night, and this morning on television I heard 1 in 5 People suffer from depression. That number is shocking! I had no idea that many people are affected by depression.

Unaware of what depression could do to someone, I have now seen it first hand. It is like an infection that spreads ever so slowly or also at a rapidly pace. . But if not treated, it can consume an individual and cause them to give up on life. What a horrible feeling of helplessness.

I was curious as to what the opposite of depressed would be. My first thought was enthusiasm, and after looking up the original meaning it seems that to be enthusiastic is to be possessed by the God’s. I love that thought and get it, but at the same time I find it hard to believe that people who are depressed “don’t have God in their lives

Wondering what others thought the opposite of depressed may be I posted on my face book status “What One Word is the opposite of depression.” I received several one word post, while many people related the opposite of depressed to God, religion, faith, and various other words relating to our inner spirit of happiness.” Therefore maybe I was correct and the word Enthusiasm is the opposite

When you are enthused about something it inhabits your surroundings and environment. Your enthusiasm might even become contagious. On the other side if one stops being enthusiastic, does that mean they become depressed.

If  Enthusiasm is contagious, does that mean depression also can be contagious?      Well, I’ll hold that thought for another blog.

The Rhodes Family Christmas Portrait... A shot most Photographers will try to avoid

Of course the Rhodes family had lots of what most people would call a great picture to choose from after the Christmas shoot. You know the ones where everyone is looking right at the camera, and smiling ever so pretty.

 I love the pouty expression of the 2 year olds Bailey Rhodes face.

And then theres the 3 year old Autumn Rhodes in her pretty Christmas dress with her fingers up her nose!

 Gotta love it

Have to wondering if the Rhodes parents had a clue as to what was going on in front of them, while the photographer was taking their portrait..

 I think the Rhodes family should use this as a Christmas Card. It would bless everyone with a laugh or at least  smile.

This holiday season make it a point to give instead of receive

The true meaning of Christmas is still prevalent in many of our lives. Although we still have a tendency to get caught up in the commercialzed end of the holidays. Its not unheard of for parents and grandparents to spend 100's or thousands of dollars on toys and games for their families. I also have been guilty of this, when my children were growing up and now I see my children doing the same thing for my grandchildren.

It's not hard in today tough times to see people struggling financially and on the other hand see them spending money they shouldn't on gifts, that are frivolous.

What we should do during the season of giving, is to give to the less fortunate. So this year I have decided to give more to a family who needs the luxury of a safe environment.

There is a daughter and mother in our community who live in a home that should be condemned. There is water leaks and stains on the celiling, cracks in the window seals, holes in the front door, the plumbing leaks. And just to much to mention. These ladies have not asked for help and somehow manage to be ALWAYS in good spirits. The following links will  allow you an insght into their lives. I hope and pray for God's blessings on these ladies.

Its the Christ-ian thing to do!   Merry Christmas to you and yours.
